The Cayman Islands are a honeymoon paradise…

unspoiled beaches, luxury accommodation and spectacular seafood.

Another great attraction is the magical underwater kingdom of coral reefs, which make this a perfect honeymoon for divers or those who wish to have an active honeymoon while they learn to dive.

Residing atop the peak of a sheer submerged mountain range, the Cayman Islands are surrounded by the Cayman Trench. The northern edges of the Trench form a massive wall known as the Cayman Ridge, which plunges dramatically to depths in excess of 25,000 feet, making it the deepest point in the Caribbean Sea. These warm waters are home to some 200 underwater dive sites where exotic and colourful tropical creatures dart out from behind rocks and sunken ships.

Bloody Bay Wall is a dive site not to be missed. It’s an entire area spanning more than a mile and offering the most dramatic wall diving you’re ever likely to find on earth. The north west side boasts underwater ledges that commence their steep vertical plummet just ten to 20 feet below the surface, extending to several thousand feet. Horizontal visibility can extend to 200 feet in parts, where you’ll be able to look down on lobsters, turtles, eagle rays, stingrays, pipe horses, pipe fish and every conceivable form of tropical sea life.

Thanks to the calm waters, healthy coral reefs, and extensive visibility, the Cayman Islands have become a prime destination for underwater photographers. To hone your picture-taking skills, you can take a short beginner or advanced class at Cathy Church’s Underwater Photo Centre (345-949-7415). It’s the Caribbean’s oldest photography school, and the place to learn how to best capture underwater wrecks, flora, the limestone peaks of a submerged mountain range, and the otherworldly creatures at Stingray City. Besides having the best duty free camera price and selection, Cathy is among the top professional underwater photographers in the world and offers a free lesson with every camera.

Scuba instruction and certification is available at all levels, from a basic resort course through to Master Scuba Instructor level. You can also take advantage of diving trips – a full or half day on the ocean, including a seafood lunch on the boat or beach. Those who prefer not to get their feet wet can also enjoy the magical marine world from the comfort of submarine trips, submerging to a depth of 100-150 feet.

Quite simply, Cayman Islands offer some of the best underwater experiences on the planet and is a must-do for those on honeymoon in the Cayman Islands.
