Day 1 – Delhi
Assemble at the Safdarjung Railway Station by 1600hrs for a traditional welcome and to being your journey across Rajasthan aboard the Palace on Wheels. The train departs at 1830hrs.
Day 2 – Jaipur
You arrive early in the morning to the pink city of Jaipur. After breakfast onboard you will be taken around the main sights of Jaipur city including the impressive Amber fort, the remarkable City Palace Complex, and the magical Hawa Mahal or Palace of Winds. After lunch you visit Jantar Mantar the 17th century royal observatory.
Return back to the Palace on Wheels by 18:30 hours and after dinner set off for the next location – Sawai Madhopur.
Day 3 – Sawai Madhopur – Chittorgarh
A thrilling day of wildlife safari adventures in the Ranthambore National Park today. Nothing can quite prepare you for the excitement of your first glimpse of the endangered Tiger in its natural habitat. After the safari you will return to the Palace on Wheels and travel to Chittorgarh.
After lunch you will explore Chittorgarh Fort, the largest and grandest fort in the state of Rajasthan. Return to the train for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 – Udaipur
You will arrive in Udaipur the city of lakes this morning. Udaipur was founded by Maharana Udai Singh in the 15th century and is today one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Visit Jag Niwas the romantic Lake Palace, and the Jag Mandir Palace with no less than eight life size marble elephants and the Jagdish temple. After lunch visit the spectacular City Palace complex before returning to the Palace on Wheels for dinner and overnight.
Day 5 – Jaisalmer
This morning you will wake up in Jaisalmer, the Golden City which sits amid the Thar Desert. Here visit some of the many astonishingly beautiful havelis and mansions . You can also visit the local markets to shop for local handicrafts. After lunch on board the Palace of Wheels you will head out to visit the sand dunes. A camel ride and the gorgeous views of the sunset over the dunes are a photographers dream come true. Dinner and a cultural extravaganza wait to surprise you in a top hotel in Jaisalmer. Return to the train for overnight and travel on to Jodhpur.
Day 6 – Jodhpur
Jodhpur is famous for Mehrangarh fort, the Jaswant Thada, and the Umaid Bhawan Palace.
Enjoy your lunch in a palace hotel and later there is time for some shopping in the bustling markets of Jodhpur where you can pick up handicraft items such as embroidered shoes, silverware and tie and dye fabrics. Dinner and overnight stay aboard the train.
Day 7 – Bharatpur/Agra
This morning in Bharatpur you visit the Ghana Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary and National Park. The huge numbers of migratory bird species that flock to this place every year, make the wildlife environs of Bharatpur all the more special. Then onwards towards Agra. The train will halt at the ancient abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri . Later in Agra you will visit the splendid Taj Mahal one of the world’s most beautiful buildings and a monument to love. After you have traveled around the Agra monuments and the markets with marble souvenirs, jewelry and leather goods you will board the train again to return to Delhi. Dinner and overnight stay aboard the Palace on Wheels train.
Day 8 – Delhi
You arrive back in Delhi this morning for the end of this amazing luxury train journey of Rajasthan and India on the most regal Palace of Wheels.
